As a non-traditional pre-med student at a top 10 research university, I quickly realized that my journey to medicine would be fairly difficult. I am the first in my family to pursue medicine and my knowledge of the pre-med journey was relatively limited. I sought out campus resources and advice from counselors and fellow peers. Like myself, most of my peers were trying to find their way.

It would take me 3 years before I found the right people with the knowledge to help me succeed and reach my goals. The mentorship and guidance from women in different aspects of medicine have been extremely instrumental to my journey. Today, I am a medical student, business owner, and mission-minded future physician working to bring change to the field of medicine.

I created Melanated Med based on my own experiences and pitfalls. Some of my mistakes could have been avoided with better insight and forewarning. Here at Melanated Med, I seek to provide uplift, mentorship, & inspiration for the many MelanatedMeds following in my path.

Black Women currently represent just 3% of the medical field and just 2.8% of physicians. This number results from a culmination of multiple boundaries presented to Black students seeking careers in medicine. I hope to boost that number by empowering other Black Women on my same journey and giving you all the best advice possible.
